Universal Wrecking Corp. (www.universalwrecking.com), a building demolition contractor company providing nationwide demolition and salvage services, recently completed demolition and wrecking services at a large shopping mall in New Jersey.

Universal Wrecking Corp. (UWC) was contracted to initially remove the exterior facade from a section of the shopping mall for renovations for a new tenant. 

Based on UWC's performance, technical expertise and a competitive bid, UWC was then contracted to remove the entire concrete slab from the interior of the building.  A total of 13,000 square feet of 6 to 8 inch concrete floor slab was removed. To accomplish demolition of the concrete slab, UWC utilized several skid steers with demolition buckets and hydraulic hammer attachments as well as skilled laborers with concrete saws to make exact cuts.  The slab was cut into manageable sections and then removed from the interior of the building outside to a container for concrete recycling.  During the slab removal, UWC had to use extreme caution and skill as to not cut or disturb the many utility lines buried in the ground.

Based on design changes between the client and their new tenant, the client requested that UWC provide additional demolition services which entailed the removal of a complete column line of the building.  This task was made more challenging as the work had to be done at night so that the mall traffic and customers would not be impacted.  UWC specializes in this type of technical demolition work and rose to the challenge. Using a hydraulic crane and laborers in articulating man lifts, UWC dismantled the column line by carefully cutting the beams and then rigging each section down to the ground.  The cut steel sections were sent offsite for scrap metal recycling and all debris was cleaned up and properly disposed.

The client was very pleased with UWC's ability to finish the project ahead of schedule, that all work was completed as designed and that there were no injuries or incidents.
