Health and Safety Policy Statement

It is the objective of Universal Wrecking Corporation to take all reasonable and practical measures to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of its employees on the job and to ensure that other persons affected by company operations are not exposed to safety and health risks.

As per OSHA "Demolition work involves many of the hazards associated with construction. However, demolition incurs additional hazards due to unknown factors such as: deviations from the structure's design introduced during construction, approved or unapproved modifications that altered the original design, materials hidden within structural members, and unknown strengths or weaknesses of construction materials. To counter these unknowns, all personnel involved in a demolition project must be fully aware of these types of hazards and the safety precautions to take to control the hazards.”

Every manager with overall responsibility for running a project or specific project task will actively apply this policy and assure development and implementation of effective practices and programs for safety.  The company will provide managers with professional advice and council in meeting these obligations.

All employees are expected to cooperate and contribute toward the overall success of the program by performing their jobs in the safest possible manner in compliance with this manual, client policies, and regulatory requirements and by conducting themselves in a way that enhances their personal safety and that of others

We invite each and every employee to join us in pledging their participation and cooperation in these Health and Safety efforts.

Steven Vesseli
President - Universal Wrecking Corporation

HEALTH & SAFETY PROGRAM PRINCIPLES
The following describes the basic philosophy of Universal Wrecking Corp. and its subsidiaries and serves as an overview for all locations.

Management is Responsible for Safety & Must Take an Active Role in Safety Enforcement

Universal Wrecking Corporation believes that only when management exerts sustained leadership in establishing safety goals and demands accountability for safety and health performance can a safety and health program be effective on each site location.  This leadership is extended from the President through to first-line supervision.  Proper safety and health management necessitates continuous involvement and improvement.

It is not only the responsibility of management, supervisors and foreman to ensure job safety and healthful working conditions.  It is a joint effort with each employee and every subcontractor in conjunction with client input.  Everyone must also accept responsibility for maintaining safety.
It is good business to educate employees in the prevention of motor vehicle accidents, employee injuries, and illnesses.  Accidents have a great impact on the economic success of our company.  The direct costs of accidents are often exceeded by hidden and indirect cost.

Safety Compliance is a Condition of Employment

Each employee of Universal Wrecking Corporation must accept responsibility for their own personal safety, as well as the safety of others while performing assigned duties.  To achieve acceptable performance, corrective discipline will be used to deal with frequent safety violators.  Employees who habitually or arbitrarily engage in unsafe work practices will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including discharge from the company.

All Employees Must be Thoroughly Trained to Work in a Safe Manner

An awareness of work safety does not come naturally.  Employees have to be trained.  Employees will be familiar with the safety procedures and policies that are contained in this manual as well as any site specific safety rules.  Proper training will assure that employees are able to work safely and respond effectively to unexpected or emergency situations.

Safety Audits Will be Conducted Frequently

Safety audits will be conducted on a frequent basis to ensure total compliance with the Universal Wrecking Corporation Safety and Health Program.  Safety audits provide an on-going assessment of safety and health conditions, procedures and practices. Safety audits also permit the timely correction of any noted deficiencies.  Without prompt corrective action to rectify an observed deficiency, the risk of serious injury is greatly increased.

All Accidents and Injuries Are Preventable

This is a realistic goal for Universal Wrecking Corporation, not a theoretical objective.  Utilizing this premise, accidents can be prevented.  Unsafe acts and conditions can be controlled.  No matter what the exposure may be, an effective safeguard can be provided.
