| Universal Wrecking Completes Recycling of Shipping Containers for Scrap Metal |
Universal Wrecking Corp. (UWC), a premier demolition
and scrap metal contractor, recently completed the purchase and scrap metal recycling
of damaged cargo containers. A large client involved in shipping, contacted UWC to purchase over 50 cargo containers that were damaged beyond repair and needed to be scrapped. The containers varied in sizes from 20 foot long to 40 foot long. Approximately fifteen (15) of the containers were aluminum in composition, another fifteen (15) were steel and the remaining twenty (20) were refrigeration units (“reefer units”). The aluminum and steel containers were easy to process into scrap but the reefer units posed a bit more of a challenge due to the amount of insulation in these units which had to be separated and sorted from the scrap metal. UWC processed the cargo containers into scrap metal for recycling and provided the client with certificates of destruction.

April 2008 – Universal Wrecking Corp. (UWC), a premier demolition contractor that operates on a nationwide basis, recently celebrated their 10th year in business. Steve Vesseli, President started UWC 10 years ago with the concept of providing a complete suite of services to clients instead of just being known as specialty contractor. | Universal Wrecking Corp. Completes Demolition and Scrap Metal Salvage of Manitowoc Crane |
March 2008 - Universal Wrecking Corp. (http://www.universalwrecking.com), a building demolition contractor company providing nationwide demolition and salvage services, recently completed the demolition of a 4500 Manitowoc crane for a private client in Pennsylvania (PA). Universal Wrecking Corp (UWC) was contracted by a private client to demolish the 4500 Manitowoc Crane which was located on one of the major coal mines in Pennsylvania. The crane was obsolete and had not been operational for several years. The dragline crane total weight was estimated at 300 Gross Tons. Prior to actual demolition of the crane, several tasks needed to be completed. From an environmental standpoint, all fluids were drained from the crane. All collected fluids were then properly handled and disposed or recycled offsite. UWC also salvaged all reuseable parts which included tracks and other crane components. Following these pre-demolition activities, the crane was then surgically dismantled using laborers with cutting torches. The demolition crew carefully cut the crane into sections and then further sized the metals into manageable pieces. These pieces of scrap metal were then sorted and placed in containers. The scrap metal was then sent offsite for recycling. Due to the amount of spare parts recovered and the value of the scrap metal, UWC was able to return a significant payment to the client. | Universal Wrecking Corp. Completed Technical Interior & Exterior Demolition Project |
February 8, 2008 - Universal Wrecking Corp. (http://www.universalwrecking.com ), a building demolition contractor company providing nationwide demolition and salvage services, recently completed a very technical interior demolition / equipment salvage project that also included exterior demolition of a tank farm and associated piping, pipe bridges and concrete stantions and pads. Universal Wrecking Corp (UWC) began by first by performing the interior demolition / fit-out work. The goal was to demolish the interior steel work and mezzanine but salvage all the reactors and associated pumps and motors. UWC is an expert equipment salvage company and carefully started at one end by cutting away the steel work and then cautiously removed the equipment to be salvaged. To accomplish this, UWC utilized skid steers with demolition attachments as well as laborers with torches in manlifts. A fire watch was constantly maintained. Equipment was walked to the loading dock using a forklift and then loaded and secured onto flatbed trucks. This process of demolition and salvage continued until the entire mezzanine was demolished and all equipment was safely salvaged. All bolts on the floor were cut flush with the existing concrete slab. Following the interior demolition and equipment removals, UWC proceeded to perform the outside demolition of the tank farm. Structures were first carefully separated from the building to remain utilizing laborers with torches in manlifts. Once the area had been separated structurally, the outside tank farm was demolished utilizing a Caterpillar excavator with shear and grapple attachment. Skid steers with demolition buckets also assisted. Utilizing the excavator and shear as well as skid steers, metals and debris were separated into separate piles. The metals were separated and recycled offsite. Debris was also collected and properly disposed offsite. This interior and exterior technical demolition project was completed by Universal Wrecking Corp. without any injuries or incidents. It was also completed on time and within budget. The project consisted of the removal of various obsolete pieces of equipment, scrap metal piles and other metal structures that had accumulated in the client's boneyard. The client needed to make room and contacted universal Wrecking Corp. (UWC) to provide scrap metal recycling and removal contractor services. UWC provided an excavator with a shear attachment as well as laborers with torches to cut and size the metal items. The sized metal scrap was then loaded in UWC trucks for deliver to the scrap mill.
